Volunteer

Bring your heart and skills to our growing team

From making meals behind the scenes, to setting tables and washing dishes, to becoming a trained COACH mentor, there are a range of ways to get involved with the work we are doing in the community.

All of our volunteers are required to undergo appropriate checks and training to keep vulnerable people safe. And each of us continues to learn ‘on the job’.

There’s a role for everyone around here.

looking to get involved?

Volunteering at Kindness Works is not a ‘one size fits all’ kind of gig. Our volunteers have a heart for their community and find ways to put kindness into action.

Volunteer Stories
  • All ages can volunteer in a number of ways. If you are under 18 the ways to volunteer will be different to those over 18. Have a chat to one of our volunteer leaders to find more.

  • Other than this, we welcome all kinds of people from all backgrounds and skill-sets to join our growing team of volunteers.

All our volunteers need to undergo appropriate safety checks for working with vulnerable people and complete our training and induction materials. It's also important that our volunteers feel a sense of alignment with our values and approach to the work we do. You can read more about these on Our Story page to see if it feels like a good fit.

  • Streetworks

We have a range of volunteer roles in our Streetworks initiative supporting those at risk or experiencing homelessness in Hervey Bay.

COACH Family and COACH Youth mentoring
At COACH we require volunteer mentors. As a mentor you must be over 18 years of age, have applied and been accepted through our registration process (incudes approved Blue Card check), have undertaken the training course and been accepted as suitable to mentor as a family our young person coach.

    • Cooks for once every 6–8 weeks on a meal roster

    • Day Respite facility cleaners at The Lounge on roster for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

    • Kitchen cleanup crew roster for Monday evening

    • Washing and cleaning donated items for distribution to those in need

    • Used items sorting and storing at our facility

common questions

We regularly run COACH training — and many people have said the training is worthwhile, even if you don't go on to become a mentor. COACH is all about learning to listen and ask good questions — skills we could all benefit from! Get in touch below to find out more about getting involved with COACH.

Ready to take the first step? Volunteer with us today.

Streetworks operates out of ‘The Lounge’ — a place where we seek to create a safe and warm welcome for anyone who needs it. Volunteers help run our Monday night dinner as well as breakfast on Tuesday mornings at the foreshore. We also open up The Lounge at other times during the week for people to drop-in. There are lots of ways to get involved.
